The past months have been very busy here in Aegerten, regarding both software development and user support. Of the many development projects in preparation for Release 9, the timetable based deterministic transit assignment is probably the one which will have the biggest impact on EMME/2's modeling capabilities. A first introduction to the basic concepts behind this new tool can be found here.
When users ask me how EMME/2 can be used to solve a problem which is of some general interest, the result is often that I sit down and write a little macro. In this way, the macro collection of the EMME/2 Support Center has grown constantly over the past years. The inventory shows you which macros are available, what they do and -especially for the macro writers among the EMME/2 users- some technical notes on the macros as such.

The last time that I had the opportunity to address EMME/2 users in this forum was the spring of 1996. Since then, several changes have taken place in INRO's Agents and several new staff members joined the company to enlarge the technical and administrative functions. Also, the number of the organizations that are using EMME/2 is steadily nearing the 700 mark. In addition to the regular EMME/2 courses offered in Montreal, on-site courses were conducted in Johanesburg, South Africa, Houston, Chicago, Oakland and Orange in the U.S.A., in Beijing, P.R. of China, in Hong Kong and in Helsinki.
My personal highlights of the past year were the visits to Sydney, Auckland, Beijing and Hong Kong which allowed me to learn about varied and interesting applications in places which are far away from home base. Such visits are instructive and allow a more personal contact than the very well used email connection. Hopefully, we will all have the opportunity to maintain these more personal contacts through participation in User Group Meetings and training courses. It is my firm belief that the relevance of the new features of EMME/2 and the quality of the training courses benefit greatly from such meetings (and not just the frequent flyer account!).
