Release 8 of the EMME/2 software is now ready and --if all goes well-- will start shipping sometimes next month. Once again, the new release represents a major step forward by adding many new functionalities and enhancing existing ones. Most of these new developments are a direct or indirect result of suggestions made by EMME/2 users, either at one of the many regional, national or international EMME/2 conferences, or by contacting us directly. As you can see, it is worth while letting us know your ideas on how EMME/2 can be improved -- so please continue to do so!
Both INRO and the EMME/2 Support Center are currently in the process of building up their WWW home pages on the Internet (see the http links below). As for the EMME/2 Support Center, I have installed an experimental home page on which, among other things, an HTML version of EMME/2 News is available, including the table of contents of all issues that appeared in the past, as well as the contents of a growing number of selected back issues. Other offerings include HTML and PostScript versions of some theoretical papers, a file archive and a page showing my upcoming absences from the office.

The distribution of a new release of EMME/2 is the culmination of a continuous effort of development, testing, documentation and limited field testing. The response that we have received from the test sites has been very positive and we all look forward to see how the new developments will be integrated in ongoing and future applications.
We have also pursued actively new partnerships with companies that would join our network of distributors and agents. As a consequence, we have appointed new agents for Spain, Germany, Singapore and South Korea. We will continue to seek ways to strengthen our collaboration with current partners and to establish new agents for countries where we are not yet formally represented.
We are indeed in the process of building a WWW site. This is an ongoing project which we anticipate to initiate later on this spring. The increase in the communications that we receive by email indicates that this will become a useful source of information for EMME/2 users.
